Biography
Far from the stereotypical image of the tortured artist, Motte radiates with positive energy, boundless curiosity, and hyper-productivity. He began his practice in a “vandal” style—illegally—attempting to enter an art school, but his real education happened elsewhere. He absorbed and immersed himself in American culture, hip-hop, and pop culture.
To truly understand his painting, one must have the chance to explore his impressive library, where shelves are filled with an eclectic mix of genres and styles. You’ll find comic books from various eras, magazines, manga, and American comics... but his references also include literature, cartoons for both adults and children, and cinema.
It’s this rich and varied cultural background that he brings into his murals and paintings, with numerous references fueling his imagination.
Characters from popular culture are often placed in scenarios that differ greatly from their original contexts. For instance, he places iconic figures in protest scenes—like Donald Duck holding a Molotov cocktail...
He skillfully combines humor, composition, slogans, and bold colors. He describes his painting as a kind of “sampling,” remixing various images like a musical composition. A perpetual perfectionist, he constantly pushes himself further, questioning and challenging his process to evolve his artistic practice.
He collaborates with artist Keymi, creating four-handed works: Keymi designs the backgrounds, establishing an abstract urban painting base, while Motte brings in characters and their settings, blending the vibrant dynamics of both styles.
