Peter Klasen – Clermont-Ferrand

Klasen, Peter

Peter Klasen, born in 1935 in Lübeck, Germany, is a major artist of narrative figuration. This pictorial movement, which emerged in France in the 1960s, is characterized by a return to figuration and a critique of consumer society.

Klasen is particularly renowned for his works combining industrial elements (machines, gears, pipes) with fragments of the female body, often legs or mouths. These images, often created using airbrushes, a technique that enables him to achieve smooth flat tints of color and subtle gradations, create a universe that is both cold and sensual, disturbing and fascinating.
